Throughout the history of the automobile, Britain has produced some fine machines. Not long after the first automobiles ran in the mid-1880s, Britain began to dominate this rapidly developing industry. Lime most nations, there have been mistakes and failures, but these are more than outweighed by the many triumphs and successes. Although some British automobiles have drifted into the shadows of obscurity, others still shine out as truly outstanding examples of engineering.
