Avanti: Studebaker And Beyond

The Avanti has been produced for nearly 45 years in various incarnations. Through several owners and five production locations the Avanti has persevered to become an endearing icon of advanced automotive design. Factory photographs and other materials document the history of this fine automobile. This photo journey takes us from Avanti?s initial beginnings with Studebaker in 1961 to the end of current production with Avanti Automotive SA de CV - the 2007 models built in Cancun, Mexico. Eight sections represent the major changes and events under the different ownership reigns. Includes many photos of the original Avanti in the Studebaker factory. Through a myriad of several owners and five production locations the Avanti has persevered to become an endearing icon of advanced automotive design. Using factory photographs and other materials to document the history of this fine automobile, this photo archive journey takes us from AvantiÆs initial beginnings with Studebaker in 1961 to the end of current production with the 2007 models built in Cancun, Mexico. Includes many photos of the original Avanti in the Studebaker factory John Hull was born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He became enamored with the Avanti upon viewing it in 1962 at the ripe old age of 11. The Avanti and its history has become his lifetime avocation.  The author was employed by Avanti Motor Corporation in Villa Rica, Georgia from November of 1999 to July of 2001. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Historians, the Avanti Owners Association International Inc. and the Studebaker Drivers club.
